Molimagex is an EU-funded infrastructure development project at the University Hospital Bucharest, one of the main teaching hospitals in Bucharest, Romania. Funding was awarded through SOP-IEC operation 221, with a Romanian Government contribution of about 900,000 EUR.
The project has started in 2009 and three new laboratories are now functional, offering new and modern research facilities within the fields of molecular pathology and medical imaging in orthopedics and gynecology.
The molecular biology and confocal microscopy core facility is able to host a wide array of research applications, with equipments and accessories that are flexible in terms of sample acceptance, workflow, data acquisition/analysis and throughput.
96-well real-time PCR system with 5 lines of excitation light and 6 bands of fluorescence detection. Applications we offer include:
relative or absolute gene expression quantification in mono- or multiplex reactions
genetic variants analysis (genotyping) using high-resolution melting curve analysis or fluorescent probes
DNA methylation analysis
We are also able to host classic PCR experiments with either gel electrophoresis or end-point colorimetric data collection.

An 8-capillary fragment analysis and sequencing system for nucleic acids. Applications include:
quantitative gene expression analysis in up to 30-plex reactions
genotyping and single-nucleotide polymorphisms analysis
genetic variation studies (MLPA, AFLP, STR)

Roche NimbleGene MS200 microarray system
Complete DNA microarray system with 2-micron resolution dual-laser scanner and ancillary equipments. Is able to perform:
gene expression analysis
DNA copy number variation studies through comparative genomic hybridization
DNA methylation and ChIP-chip analysis
Roche Genome Sequencer FLX next-generation DNA sequencing system

Zeiss LSM710 confocal microscope
A single-photon laser scanning confocal microscope configured with 4 laser sources, two PMT detectors and one spectral detector. The microscope is not equipped for live cell analysis. Applications we offer include:
protein expression studies for up to four targets simultaneously on cell cultures, cryosections or paraffin embedded tissue sections
fluorescencent in-situ hybridization studies for various nucleic acid targets (DNA, mRNA, miRNA) with high spectral analysis flexibility
fluorescent protein (e.g. GFP) expression analysis
cell organelles studies using fluorescent molecular probes
Zeiss PALM laser microdissection microscope
Laser microdissection system for cryosections or paraffin-embedded tissue sections used to isolate target tissue areas for subsequent molecular biology analysis. The microscope is not equipped for live cell sorting.
